Beautiful Basset Cribs

Basset cribs have a simple though very distinctive style, evoking an American cottage or New England look. The names of the collections bring to mind this sense of time and place: American Home, Cottage Pine, New Haven, Timber Creek and others. These baby cribs are perfect for nurseries that have a simple, understated decor.

Basset Furniture has been in business for over 100 years. From its base in Virginia it has been synonymous with nursery furniture, making cribs, bassinets, and cradles for the American public.

Whilst other companies have looked abroad for both the manufacture and design of baby cribs, Bassett remains very much an American based company drawing inspiration from the history and designs found in America.

Bassett crib furniture may draw inspiration from the past but it is made using the latest technology and meets and surpasses current safety regulations. All cribs by Bassett have a Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) certification. They are built to last using only hardwood and the best veneers.

The company still makes traditional drop-side cribs but, like most manufacturers, it makes convertible cribs. This type of nursery bedding not only looks beautiful but will grow as your child grows: until your child reaches adulthood, you won't ever need to buy another bed. You can also buy matching furniture for each Bassett convertible crib, to give your nursery a uniform look.

A very popular Basset convertible crib is the Cottage Pine. This is a lovely piece of furniture with a wainscot panel on the headboard. It is made from solid pine. It also has a metal spring deck and single drop knee release side with a comfort-cap rail - as do the entire convertible crib range from Bassett.

The New Haven crib is very New England in design. It has wainscot paneling on the headboard. The two other panels have the slightest curve and the legs are simple and delicate looking. It is made from solid beech with stained beech veneers.

The Winsor crib by Bassett is a slightly grander affair. The headboard has a rounded top that flattens out on the ends. It also has subtle carved detailing. What is a very nice is that the two front legs taper at the bottom. It is constructed from pine.

The Basset American Home crib is my personal favorite. It has a tall slatted headboard that has a straight top. Straight, unadorned lines feature throughout giving it a slightly 'Shaker' look. This piece of nursery furniture looks especially nice when converted to a toddler-bed.

Bassett isn't going to appeal to everyone. Many parents now prefer a more modern look; companies like Pali Cribs offer these European influenced pieces, using blond wood and subtle finishes. Others still prefer the old-fashioned style but dislike the company's convertible cribs because they are too prosaic in style. Cribs from companies like Munire and Babi Italia offer old-world charm but with more ornate detailing.

However, if you want a well-made crib with simple American designs of the past then you should take a more detailed look at Basset cribs.
